Mangalore, Feb 19: The 387th birth anniversary of Chatrapathi Sri Shivaji Maharaj was observed at the town hall, here on Wednesday, February 19.
The program was organized by the DK Dist Administration in association with the Kannada and Cultural Department DK Dist (KCDDK) and Karnataka Kshatriya Marata Parishath DK (KKMP).
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel along with other dignitaries inaugurated the event by lighting the auspicious lamp. Addressing after the inauguration, he said, the only Indian King who developed Patriotism through the home thinking. He was indeed a unique nationalist who fought against the Moguls through religious nationalistic lines.
The Marata associations had put forth a proposal for a construction of a Marata Community Hall in the city, likewise I would like to set aside a sum of Rs 2lacs to serve the purpose. We indeed live ina surrounding that is filled with selfishness and we are worried only about ourselves and our family. But Shivaji was one such leader who lived for the society and his people. So this should not be just a celebration, but urge our youths to build a team which would indulge the thoughts and mindset of Shivaji and serve the society, he added.
DC A B Ibrahim, Suresh Rao K Laad, joint secretary, KKMP, Devoji Rao Jaadav, president, Aarya alias Marata Samaja Sangha, P Sarvajna Achar, retired Teacher, Chandrahas Rai, Asst Director, KCDDK, A V Suresh Rao Karmore, district president KKMP and others were present. The event was compeered by Manjula Shetty.
A floral tribute to the photo of Shivaji was also given by all the dignitaries present on the dais. The KKMP officer bearers handed over a memorandum to Nalin Kumar Kateel and DC A B Ibrahim putting forth various demands.
A procession was also held from Pandeshwar to the Town Hall prior to the stage program. Chende and Nasik band added color to the procession. A man dressed up as shivaji, was taken in the procession in the horse was the specialty of the procession.
