Mangalore, Feb 17: “Children are the resources of this nation, hence tracing missing children is like tracing our resources. I request NGOs to involve themselves in the work of tracing missing children as if they were their own children. This work should be done on humanitarian grounds and should not be a mechanical," said Patil Nagalingana Gowda, president of Juvenile Justice Board.

He was addressing after inaugurating new district unit of missing child bureau at DC's office here on Monday February 17.

Deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim said, "Finally, our district has got a missing child bureau. It is a tragedy when children go missing. Such incidents have the potential to trigger violence in society, hence establishment of district unit of missing child bureau is a revolutionary step”.

Asha Nayak, president of women and child welfare committee said, “Because our system failed to trace the missing children, NGOs have taken this initiative. Children leave their homes not only because of poverty but for various other reasons too. Children are also attracted to materialism existing in society. We need study and find out where these missing children go. Children are exploited sexually, or for begging or selling drugs. This is hazardous to the country."

Dr Geevarghese Mar Divannasios, Bishop of Puttur diocese blessed the occasion.

Binu Varghese, state coordinator of missing child bureau presented the keynote address.

Gertrude Veghese, assistant director of DK women and child welfare department was present.
