Mangalore, Feb 16: Terrorism in our nation has been sponsored by Pakistan. It has been destroying the economy of our country. Pakistan must be declared as a country that sponsors terrorism. Naxalism and terrorism are the two instruments used by Pakistan and China to try and destroy India," said lieutenant general Dr N S Malik, former deputy commandant of Army, New Delhi.
Speaking at a press conference on the topic of 'National Security Issues' orgnized by Youth For Nation here on Saturday, February 15, he said, "We are thus spreading awareness and educating the public on national issues especially with regard to national security. There is no involvement of any political party in this and the programme has been initiated by Youth For Nation."
Explaining further, he said, "Two of our neighbouring countries, Pakistan and China have been attacking us in all possible ways and the worst part of this is the collusion of both these counties to attack India. China has been using Pakistan as a proxy to attack us. There are lots of issues with China, which we are not raising on the national level. In the Northern areas, Chinese have a massive presence and also, large extent of land has been illegally intruded upon by these two countries.
"In Karakuram Highway in the northern parts of the country, one can find major tunnels, which have been used by the invaders to store missiles and other destructive weapons. A port nearby has been fully controlled by China, which indicates that we have been lacking security over waterways. One such example is the 2008 Mumbai terror attack, where the attackers had reached their target via sea," he said.
"A proxy war has been carried out from a long time ago through two different ways: Economic Attack and Demographic Attack. Naxalism, terrorism, Maoism, drugs and other narcotic substances supply, inter communal wars etc have been happening continuously in our nation, thus effecting its growth.
"We are indeed at a dangerous stage. In fact, the entire southern Asian region itself is in danger as the three neighbouring rival countries - India, Pakistan and China - are nuclear powered. Thus our Army, Navy and Air wing must be ever ready to fight at any point and position," he said.
"Our military forces must be fully equipped with modernized weapons. We import the weapons, hence they are too costly to the country’s economy. We have the capacity to manufacture the weapons ourselves, but the government has not been allowing it since the beginning. If the defense sector is developed, the country's economy will grow," he added.
Speaking on the occasion, P P Hegde, advocate and national chairman of Youth For Nation said the youth of this nation are concerned about the general neglect of national security by the central government. "In the state of Jammu and Kashmir, 78,000 sq km of land has been illegally occupied by Pakistan. Nearly 35,500 sq km of land is under illegal occupation of China - occupied in 1950’s and during the 1962 Sino-Indian Conflict," he said.
"The government has not taken any step to reclaim our land back. On November 14, 1962, on the birthday of Jawaharlal Nehru, the then PM passed a unanimous resolution to recover every inch of land that was lost to China. However, for the past half a century not an inch of land has been recovered," he said.
"On the contrary, China intruded 19 km into our territory in Depsang Bulge Ladakh in 2013. In addition, China is claiming 90,000 sq km in Arunachal Pradesh and asserting its claim by not providing visa to the residents of Arunachal Pradesh to enter China. China has also printed its map on its passport by including Arunachal Pradesh within its borders, calling it 'Southern Tibet'," he added.
"The government has admitted that there are more than 20 million Bangaldeshi immigrants in India; however the actual estimates are believed to be more than five crore. Several lacs of Bangladeshis are also in Mangalore and other parts of Karnataka. No step whatsoever has been taken to expel the illegal immigrants who are a risk to national security," Hegde said.
"To create awareness among the public on these issues of national importance, seminars are held being by Youth For Nation in different places across the nation with the active participation of the former senior officers of Indian Defence forces," he said.
Lieutenant general P G Kamath, former commandant of Army War College, Mhow, Brigadier Narayan Singh Malik, New Delhi, former officer of RAW and Prof G S Murthy, Vijayavada, former nuclear scientist were present.
