Udupi: Three villages in focus as four-month 'Gramotsava' begins at Paniyoor

Udupi, Feb 15: "A village can prosper only if there is peace and harmony. The country prospers when the villages prosper. It is praiseworthy to organize a village festival in Belapu with focus the rural life and development," said Udupi Sri Sugunendrateertha Sripada of Puthige Math.

He was speaking after inaugurating a combined 'Gramotsava-2014' comprising Belapu, Uchila and Elluru vilages at Paniyoor Sri Durga Devi Higher Primary School here on Saturday February 15. The event will be held for a period of three months, culminating on May 11 this year.

Dr M N Rajendra Kumar, president of Dakshina Kannada district cooperative bank inaugurated a free mega health camp and blood donation camp jointly held by Balapu C A Bank and Manipal KMC hospital.

Dr Rajendra Kumar donated an amount of Rs 1.5 lac to Belapu Deviprasad Shetty, committee president, as a contribution to the health camp held in view of rural development and healthcare of villagers.

Udupi zilla panchayat president Upendra Nayak presided over the programme. MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary and Sunni Student Federation's national secretary Abdul Rasheed Zaini conveyed their best wishes.

Udupi taluk panchayat president Gauri Poojarthi, Belapu gram panchayat president Prakash Rao, Bada gram panchayat president Vasanth Shetty, Ellooru Sri Vishweshwara temple trustee Y Prafulla Shetty, Kunjur Temple trustee Nadimane Devaraja Rao, Manipal Mahe Estate officer Jai Vittal, Manipal KMC hospital's Dr Anil Kumar, Parkala Lions Club's president Gangadhara Bhandary Birthi, Shirva health department official Dr Vasudeva, Belapu C A Bank's general manager Ratnakar Soans, Medical association's Madhusoodan Heroor, Surendra Paniyoor, chief convener Niranjan Shetty Paniyoor and treasurer Dinesh Shetty Kunjur were present.

Gramotsava-2014 president Deviprasad Shetty Belapu welcomed. Guide and Janapada researcher K L Kundantaya delivered keynote address. Chief secretary Rakesh Kunjur proposed vote of thanks. Convener Satish Shetty compered the programme.

A musical show was held later in the evening.

    Good move and whichever projects contribute to the unity of the citizens/society will be appreciated.We have to congratulate leading personalities who are the backbone for this festival (Mr Devi Prasad Shetty and Mr MN Rajaer).Let village will be in focus and such kind of GRAMOSTVA should cover throughout Karnataka.
