Kundapur, Feb 9: A woman has gone absconding after allegedly duping people of several lacs of rupees in the name of Dharmasthala self-help groups (SHGs).
The parents of the accused woman, identified as Kodi resident Rashida, lodged a missing complaint in Kundapur police station on Saturday February 8. Rashida is married to a person from Uppala, Kasargod.
For many years, Rashida was a member of a self-help group under Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP). During this time, she invited several women to join the group in her village at Kodi and eventually collected money from them. She also reportedly borrowed several lacs as loans from the organization in the name of other members without their knowledge. However, when it was time to return the loans, Rashida went missing and her mobile number was not reachable.
Sources said that Rashida was earlier married to a person from Honnavar, however, as the marriage did not last long, she returned to her parental home in Kodi village. Here, she joined as a member of the self-help group. In addition, she is said to have borrowed lacs of money from her sister as well.
Around 10 months ago, Rashida got married to Majeed of Uppala, despite his family's objection owing to her habit of borrowing money.
Sources said that Rashida went missing several days ago, and has contacted neither her husband nor her parents. However, the women who were duped by her allege that her husband was lying about not knowing her whereabouts.
