Kuwait: Entertainment aplenty at SWAK annual celebration

Kuwait, Feb 8: Shirva Welfare Association Kuwait (SWAK) under the leadership of Alwyn Naveen D’Souza celebrated its Patron feast (Vodlen Fest) at the Salmiya Indian Model School (SIMS) Auditorium, Salmiya, Kuwait on Friday February 7.
The programme commenced with the introduction of Dr Manohar Prabhu, MC of the day by Clifford D'Souza, followed by a prayer by Regina Serrao. Committee members sang a welcome song for which lyrics were written by Lancy Rodrigues and music was provided by music maestro Adrian Gomes. President of SWAK Alwyn Naveen D’Souza officially welcomed the guests and thanked all the members for their support. Secretary Doris Lobo read out the annual report highlighting the achievements of SWAK.
During the felicitation ceremony, Fr Noel D' Almeida and Tressy Sanctis were the chief guests. The committee members along with Fr Noel and Tressy Sanctis cut the cake to symbolically start the feast, after which Fr Noel D' Almeida delivered the feast message. Meritorious students were honoured by president Alwyn D’Souza, Urban D’Souza, Fr Noel and Tressy Sanctis. The sponsors, outstanding members and media personnel were also honored during the occasion for their contribution towards SWAK. Ivan Martis was felicitated by Alwyn D’Souza for his long-time contribution to SWAK and for his gesture of returning the funds provided by SWAK for his medical needs, which will be used for needy people.
The audience enjoyed the entertainment programme put up by SWAK members and their kids. Foot-tapping dances were performed by Danica D'Souza, Mervice, Viola, Sahana Alisha Gomes, Avril Mathias, Carol D'Souza, Carlita D'Souza, Astrel Menezes, Tanisha , Thnia, Sharen, Delma, Freya, Inish, Maclina and Melina. Rib-tickling jokes were enacted by Chris D'Souza, Danica Monteiro, Felix, Regina Serrao, Alexander, Sunny and Anil. Melodious songs were sung by 'Gulf Voice of Mangalore' Orson D'Souza ("Thembe Thembe" from Kevin Misquith's album), Ashwin Correa ('Milne hai mujse aayi' from "Aashiqui 2") and Ralph Serrao (Gulabi Ankhem). When Orson sang his favourite song ‘Angelina’ which had also won the GVOM title for him, the entire crowd cheered with a loud round of applause. Alston Gomes played instrumental (flute, saxophone, trumpet and mouth organ on the tune of 'Kenna Kenna' by Kevin Misquith. Orson and his new bride Jennifer were honoured with a bouquet by president Alwyn D’Souza.
Several games were conducted for all age groups. A number of spot prizes were given away at intervals and during dance sessions. Lucky dip draw and housie were conducted to keep the excitement alive. Lucky member and highest lucky dip seller were honored with prizes.
Votes of thanks were delivered by SWAK vice-president Urban D'Souza. Fr Noel and kids offered grace before the meal.
The well conducted programme came to an end with masala dance session by DJ Kiran and grand buffet dinner by M & M Caterers. The programme was ably compered by Dr Manohar Prabhu and appreciated by everyone.
