Mangalore: Netravati-Phalguni Kambala Jodukere to be held on Feb 8

Mangalore, Feb 5: “On behalf of Dakshina Kannada Karavali Utsava, Dr Shivaram Karanth Pilikula Biological Park along with the district administration will hold the ‘6th Netravati- Phalguni Kambala Jodukere’ on Saturday February 8 in Pilikula,” said MLA J R Lobo.

He was addressing the press meet held at DC office on Wednesday February 5.  

Lobo also said, “There is a plan to develop Pilikula as a tourist hub and promote Kambla as a folk sport throughout Karnataka as well the outer parts of the state. In future, a particular day will be fixed for the Netravati- Phalguni Kambala in a congenial season. State minister B Ramanath Rai will inaugurate the Kambala race and state minister for health and family welfare UT Khader will inaugurate the occasion. Abayachandra Jain, state minister for youth service, sports, and fisheries will preside.”

Moses Jayashekar, Deputy Director of Public Instruction, said, “An action plan has been prepared to increase the result of SSLC marks. As there are just two months left for exams, the district administration has planned to retain at least fifth position in the state instead of the 26th place.”

He also added that parents should especially support this programme and students should get a good learning environment. “Schools will organize special class from 9 to 10 am. From March 1, 2014, a programme will be broadcast on radio about preparation for SSLC examination featuring subject experts. The programme will be of one hour, out of which half an hour will have experts give information and the remaining time will be for phone-ins where students can ask the experts questions.  Already 45 officers have been asked to look after this programme,” added Jayashekar.

 On this occasion, deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim and others were present.
