Bantwal, Feb 4: Four persons of a family were killed in a horrific accident that took place at Panemangalore here late night on Monday February 3.

The accident took place when a KSRTC bus rammed into an auto rickshaw near Panemangalore bridge on national highway 75.

Nishan (injured)

Bhaskar and Prema with their children

The deceased have been identified as Bhaskar (45), his wife Prema (35), Jagadish (38) and his wife Suprita (30). All of them died on the spot, sources said. They were residents of Mulibail, Barimar.

Bhaskar and Prema's children Abhijna (8) and Prajna (3), and Jagadish-Suprita's 3-and-a-half-year-old son Nishan were seriously injured and admitted to a private hospital. Nishan's condition is said to be critical.

Bhaskar and Jagadish were sons of Laxman Poojary and Shashikala of Barimar. On Monday night they were returning from a wedding party of their younger brother's sister-in-law when the accident took place.

Bhaskar and Prema had three children, of whom the eldest daughter Munni stayed home while Abhijna and Prajna accompanied them to the party.

It is said that the bus was being driven at a high speed. Police said that the auto rickshaw too was on the extreme right.

Bhaskar was riding the auto rickshaw. The impact of the accident was such that the rickshaw was completely smashed.

Both sons of Laxman Poojary lived in the same house at Barimar. Jagadish had recently started constructing a house.

Bhaskar and Jagadish were among the eight children of Laxman and Shashikala Poojary. Among the eight, five are daughters. Except the youngest daughter who is physically challenged, all the siblings are married. The youngest among the sons, Jayant, runs a shop at Puttur and lives with his wife and children at Mottetadka in Puttur.

A pall of gloom has descended on Laxman Poojary's house, where until now Bhaskar and Jagadish lived with their wives and children.

It is a miracle that three little children survived the ghastly accident. As soon as the accident became known, locals gathered at the spot and helped in the rescue operation. The staff of the 108 emergency service provided first aid to the injured children and rushed them to hospital, which probably saved their lives.

Bantwal circle inspector Rajshekar Mistry and other police officials rushed to the spot.

Bantwal town police have registered a case.

In India there is no political parties are fighting an election on the base of development. Their vote bank politics start with fooling people on the base of caste, community or religion base. No one is thinking about the development of the Road or safety of their people.

May these souls rest in peace. Now is the time to blame RTO. Does the RTO do a yearly inspection for the public vehicles properly?, they issue the driving license for the right drivers? are the licence given to those who pay under the table?

The public Carrier bus should be fitted with speed-check governor so that they will not speed beyond the specific speed limit.
In the developed countries there are parallel roads along the highways for the local traffic that cannot enter the highway roads.
The local rickshaw and two-wheeler should remember that they are moving on a highway where the long distance vehicles are moving with good speed.
The RTO should check for the rouge drivers in the public transport buses and strictly suspend their licenses if they are caught speeding and cancel their licenses if they repeat the offense thrice.
    Please remember:
Speed thrills but kills! So start early and reach safely!!

It is mentioned here that the Bus was at high speed and the Auto Rickshaw was on the extreme right side instead to the left and banged into the KSRTC bus. Here many of the readers blame the bus driver.
First, it is NH 75, Mangalore - Bangalore and meant for fast movement of the vehicles and every driver must exercise caution in driving on highways. Driving skills on the highways is different than driving on village roads.

Many a times I had written in these columns that the autos and two wheelers drive recklessly and in the opposite direction to save FEW RUPEeS, between Padil Junction and B.C. Road, especially at Kannur, Adyar, Farangipete, Thumbe, etc. and there these vehicle drivers expect the other vehicle drivers to take care of them.

Yesterday, while I was returning to Mangalore at about 3.30p.m. along with my family members from Vorkady in Kasaragod District, as we approached the Thokottu Junction, many of the auto drivers and two wheelers without helmet, either talking on the mobile while driving or driving in the opposite direction in between the ongoing traffic. Now you readers tell me who will at fault if the people drive like this? This is the state of affairs of the road users in Karnataka. We are good in blaming others without knowing the facts and ascertaining them.

But what a pleasant journey it was for me to drive from Talpady to Vorkady via Hosangady and return, with nice and beautiful roads, people with traffic sense and that is because it is Kerala State.
Contrary, it was a nightmare to drive from Mangalore to Talpady and return.

See, this morning accident at Valencia circle, the eye witness had confirmed that the deceased was on the mobile phone while walking and new brand TATA Chasis knocked down and the person died. See the today's Daiji Report.

Let us all follow traffic rules and take precaution while driving and as well as while walking on the roads. JAI HIND.

All are blaming the KSRTC driver. But there could be some faults with the Auto driver also as "On Monday night they were returning from a wedding party" . These days, driving back from wedding parties are risky.

This is not the first time KSRTC bus smashing rickshaw like this, earlier too in Mangalore to BC road same has been happened .
I remember last time 2 elderly women killed while returning from a temple by the same KSRTC bus smashing the rickshaw totally, I could see all PRASADAM was fallen out from their bags.
Very sad and unfortunate incident, GOd only can save us all.

My dear commentators lest you forget

These KSRTC bus drivers are Government employees they enjoy the same immunity as does our respected Indian diplomat Khobragade.

However, in the case of Khobragade the immunity was shattered to bits by the US.

Well, in the case of these insane KSRTC drivers who have scant respect for lives who will shatter the immunity they enjoy?

and should I add break their bones to bits?

For those of us who have not looked at the pictures

The impact of the auto rickshaw on the bus is on the right if the auto rickshaw was being driven on the extreme right, as reported by the police then the dent should have been on the left side of the bus at least that's what I'd imagine. Unless the bus driver veered way off the road to save the auto rickshaw. Or its a case of the police (government servant enjoying immunity) trying to cover up the bus driver (another government servant enjoying immunity).

I have seen these KSRTC buses plying on the ghat section on the Shiradi. I travel to and fro to Mangalore every weekend. I still shiver at the way these buses are driven. No respect for traffic rules, no dignity or self respect and if you confront them, they simply turn to be rowdies. But my question is, is our transport minister bothered, is our traffic police dept or the RTO bothered. Am I writing just another frustrated message. 4 lives lost and what happens. Years of errands to the court and the driver gets out without any punishment because there is no proof. And life goes on. More accidents, more deaths and more ignorant drivers, ministers, department officials. What a tragedy my country fellowmen live through. We are nothing but a flock of sheep to be butchered on the roads without mercy and nothing happens.

RIP for the departed. I feel sorry for the your mind set blaming everything on the Government. have you ever seen Panemangalore bridge?, the govt. only can impose certain rules and regulation, but it need to be followed by people if they dont follow what shall the govt. do? do think there were no accident before cong Govt. or there are no accidents in the developed countries? Do you think when Modi becomes PM and there would be no accidents in India? we need to grow up to state where we can see thinks objectively.
