Mangalore: Veera Rani Abbakka awards for Dr Gayatri Navada, Sheela Shetty

Mangalore, Feb 3: Renowned feminist thinker and researcher Dr Gayatri V Navada will be honoured with the Veera Rani Abbakka Prashasti while veteran writer Sheela K Shetty Yermal will be conferred the Veera Rani Abbakka Purskar.

This was announced by Jayaram Shetty, president of the reception committee of Veera Rani Abbakka Samiti at a press meet at the circuit house here on Monday February 3.

The awards will be presented at the valedictory ceremony of Veera Rani Abbakka Utsava to be jointly organized by Veera Rani Abbakka Samiti and department of Kannada and culture at Kurnadu Government Pre University College premises, Mudipu on February 17 and 18.

A panel of jury consisting of eminent writer Amruth Someshwar, K Jayaram Shetty, Dr Vaman Nandavar, Dinakar and Bhaskar Rai Kukkuvalli selected the winners. The award consists of Rs 20,000 each and mementoes.
 
Jayaram Shetty further said, "The government has sanctioned Rs 5 crore for the construction of Abbakka Bhavan in Thokkottu, out of which Rs 1 crore has been released. Rs 20 lac has also been released for Gadi Bhavan in Permannur, Thokkottu.
 
Chief minister Siddaramaiah, who is expected to attend the event, will lay the foundation stone for Abbakka Bhavan, Shetty said.
 
On this occasion Bhaskar Rai Kukkuvalli, Sadananda Bangera and Dinkar Ullal were present.
