Mumbai: 'Konkani Utsav' to delight Mira Road on Feb 15-16

Mumbai, Feb 3: St Joseph’s Konkani Welfare Association, Mira Road is all set to celebrate 'Konkani Utsav', an event to promote Konkani art and culture among the Konkani speaking population of Mumbai, on February 15 and 16 at St Joseph's Church Grounds here.
Konkani culture and language is slowly fading away in Mumbai and surrounding areas due to many reasons. To boost and encourage the young Konkani populace towards their culture and language St Joseph’s Konkani Welfare Association, Mira Road decided to host an event which would help keep the native culture alive, say the organisers.
Konkani actor, director, writer and Comedy King Francis Fernandes Cascia will preside over the function. The chief guest will be well-known writer H J Goveas. Joy Paladka is the director of the event.
Some of the main attractions of Konkani Utsav will be:
• Display of articles used by Konkani forefathers in their day to day lives.
• Roce and marriage ceremony enactment (olden style)
• Manglorean and Goan delicacies (food festival)
• Felicitation of Mumbai’s Konkani writers, actors, musicians and artistes etc.
• Colourful procession with famous Brass Band from Mangalore
• Skits, jokes and performances by artistes from different parts of Mumbai
• Special attraction – Procession in and around Mira Road showcasing colourful Konkani culture.
• February 15 reserved for Mira Road People to showcase their talents
• On February 16, performances from All Mumbai Konkani Associations will be held.
