Beltangady, Feb 1: A murder suspect who had escaped from police custody just before being produced before the magistrate, has been arrested again, after three days of intense search.
Satish (23), a resident of Kanyadi Adilu Mane near Dharmasthala is suspected of being responsible for the death of his wife Manjushree (19).
They had married after three months of courtship. Manjushree was admitted to a hospital in Mangalore due to burns sustained in a fire at her husband's house on January 16. She passed away on January 21.
It is said that Satish had not informed her family about the incident, but they came to know about it through somebody else. This evoked her family's suspicion. They alleged that Satish had poured kerosene on Manjushree and set her on fire.
The girl’s uncle had complained to the police commissioner. DySP Jagannath had conducted the investigation and arrested Satish.
Satish escaped from police custody on January 27 when he was being brought to government hospital for examination before being produced in court.
The police searched for him for three days and nights in Savanalu, Gadayikallu, Nada forests and other places. The police received information that he had visited a few houses for food, but fled when the police were about to reach there. He was finally caught in Ujire on Friday January 31.
He was produced before the magistrate who sent him to judicial custody for 15 days. Besides murder, he has been accused of escaping from police custody. Two policemen have been suspended for his escape.
