Karkala: Rs 8.3 lac distributed as alms at Attur Shrine

Karkala, Feb 1: The generosity of the devotees during the annual feast of St Lawrence Shrine at Attur here has brought smiles to the faces of the less fortunate.

An amount of Rs 8,30,450 was collected in the donation box during the feast. This amount was distributed among beggars on Friday afternoon, as is the custom every year.

The three-day annual feast concluded on Friday, January 31.

A large number of beggars irrespective of religion, language and creed were seen thronging the premises to receive the aid since early morning on Friday.

Many differently-abled people were seen coming in groups to the church compound.

The beggars who had assembled in front of the main door were paid between Rs 400 to 600 besides being provided food at noon.

Children below fourteen years were given only lunch. Moodubelle’s Best Caterers prepared the food.

More than 2,000 beggars benefited from the gesture, it is learnt.

Although it is a generous effort, I am not happy with it. Most of the beggars are not poor, they are only lazy and do not want to work and even use children. A famous case in Mumbai, where a woman, her daughter and son-in-law used to kidnap children use them in begging and even kill them if they did not earn sufficient. They are now in jail, but begging racket is still flourishing because of us who give alms and thus indirectly help begging rackets to earn by misusing children. There should be a ban on CHILD BEGGING, WHICH IS A CRUDEST FORM OF CHILD LABOUR, IN WHICH THE POLICEMEN ALSO GET HAFTAS, where infants and children are either given birth or kidnapped and misused (even maimed) by cruel and heartless people. Stop giving money to babies and children and women holding children in their arms. THEY ARE MADE TO BEG IN THE SCORCHING SUN, COLD AND RAINS and THE MONEY COLLECTED BY THEM IS USED BY THE SCOUNDRELS AND IF THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO COLLECT ENOUGH MONEY THEY ARE DONE AWAY WITH.

Even, if these children survive somehow, the girls go in the flesh trade and boys become thieves or some anti social elements. Only give food, clothing and shelter. Better still you may give the money to good NGOs, who will rehabilitate the innocent babies and children and finally THE SCOUNDRELS WILL STOP MISUSING INNOCENT CHILDREN FOR THEIR SELFISH GAINS. REMEMBER ALL CHILDREN ARE INNOCENT AND VULNERABLE AND CANNOT FIGHT THE CRUEL WORLD ON THEIR OWN. PLEASE STOP GIVING ALMS TO BABIES AND CHILDREN, AND ALSO, TELL YOUR FRIENDS AND RELATIVES WHO IN TURN SHOULD SPREAD THE NEWS. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY WE CAN SAVE OUR INNOCENT CHILDREN. NA RAHENGI BAS NA BAJEGI BASOORI.

I really appreciate the Church Authorities for the genuine work in helping the needy.

Also, I request them, to properly check the needy people before rendering help, as most of time beggars are more professional than helpless people. They prefer to remain beggars once they get addicted for a regular source of earnings(begging). Reallocation is the need of the day, & hardly few opt for this. Even they rarely prefer to go to Beggars Orphanage run by State Government. Hunger to work hard-earn-live is most of time absent in these people. Proper counselling may also be needed to bring them to national stream.

I met a beggar in Calgary Downtown, Canada last week and asked him and asked him: "How is your day going?

He mentioned "To be happy to be less blessed and less fortunate" and then he continued "to be happy to be discriminated" and finally mentioned "to be happy to be hungry".

It was -25 and he had one layer of clothes and it was freezing. While I had winter clothes with multiple layers.
Instantly prospective of life is changed how a person who has no home to live, no bread to eat be still smiling and I'm grumpy...with all the comforts in life.

Coming back to the above news:
I accept the fact these beggars are less fortunate ones.
How many good meals or full meals did they have like us.
It is easy to comment on them, they could work. Look their situation and living style...
The question is how we can be effective on them ? or bring smile on them instead of saying ohh... they are physically fit.

They are your brothers and sisters When you share your life changes Are you willing to invite to your home and share your meal ?

Each beggar has his /her own storey to narrate! Would you like to listen to them ? The stories that them poor,

Bollu, you are living in a different world!! Today you give work and pay double!! I bet you can not collect a dozen who can do half the assigned work for double wages!! For your favorite protests there are double the people than expected!! You are used to giving them four times!!! You are too immature to suggest on the headline topic!! There are migalla beggers!! The church will not embarrass pointing a few from the line of genuine deserving! It is evident in the pictures published! There was no scope for usual moral enforcing due to technology!!!

Somehow I did not like the word beggar being used again and again. I always feel we should use the word less privileged for our fellow human beings. God has blessed us, but the less privileged are also humans and it is unfortunate that they are looking for some help. May God bless and take care of each and every one of them.

It is good to share with poor people. Congrats for the organizers. Actually, all are busy in enjoying the feast, but they have done good work by sharing their joy with the poor. All hotels who waste and throw away good food should donate/distribute them to such organizers.

While appreciating immensely for the generosity move, I can find few people in the queue are healthy enough to work and earn their bread, rather begging. In other words, they are snatching the share of "real and deserved beneficiaries"

During my elementary school, there was a lesson in Kannada called "Maigallaru"... Just remembered it...

Let Sangha Parivar learn a lesson from this charity. Charity and donation box has benefited all communities in general and majority community in particular. Poverty doesn't know any religion. Hunger doesn't know any religion. Love doesn't know any religion. Humanity does not know any religion. ONly parivar members know how to divide..at the hands of politicians. Gods curse be on them who divide and blessings be on them who unite.
