Mangalore, May 18: Hrudayavahini, a Mangalore-based Kannada monthly, and Karnataka Sangha, Matunga in Mumbai, are organising a two-day `All-India Kannada Cultural Convention 2006' at Visvesvaraya Memorial Hall, Matunga from July 1.
The stage for the convention has been named Varadaraj Aadhya Vedike.
Preparations for the convention are under way.
K P Manjunath Sagar, president of sammelan samiti, told presspersons here on Tuesday that literary activities such as "kavigosti," "hasyagosti" and a seminar on the topic "Samaja mattu madhyama" will be organised as part of the convention.
Dramas, skits, Bharatanatya, folk dances, film songs and other programmes would be organised as part of cultural programmes.
Sagar said Minister for Water Resources K S Eshwarappa and Minister for Fisheries and Muzrai B Nagaraj Shetty are expected to participate in the inaugural function.
The organisers intend to invite Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and actor Jayamala, among others, for the valedictory function.
A 200-strong cultural delegation from Karnataka is expected to participate in the convention. Kannadigas from various States as well as from foreign countries are expected to participate in it, Sagar said and added the organisers have planned to honour 25 people, including five NRI Kannadigas, five Horanadu Kannadigas and five Gadinadu Kannadigas for their service to society.
