'In 2013, a whopping 3 million tourists checked into Goa'


Panaji, Jan 22 (IANS): Overall tourist arrivals in Goa rose 12 percent in 2013 over the previous year, clocking the three million-mark for the first time, Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar said Wednesday.

Parulekar was talking to reporters here at a press conference, organised to announce the launch of a tourism-related mobile App.

"Overall tourist arrivals in 2013 rose 12 percent as compared to 2012 figures while foreign tourist arrivals grew 9.27 percent," he said.

The minister said in 2013, 3.12 million tourists landed in Goa against 27.87 million in the preceding year.

The mobile application which he unveiled on the occasion will provide tourists with basic information such as demography, boarding, lodging, travel and important numbers besides must-see places in Goa," Parulekar said.

Goa is one of the most popular beach tourism destinations of the country.
