Mangalore: Man injured, two vehicles damaged in group clashes at Ullal

Mangalore, Jan 17: A fight erupted between two groups from Kotepura and Ullala Kodi in connection with an Eid Milad procession, resulting in an attack on a person with a machete and stone-pelting at two vehicles over the last three days.
Ullal Kodi resident Abdul Latif, brother of municipal council member Ashraf Bava Kodi was allegedly attacked with a machete. He is undergoing treatment at a Thokkottu private hospital. The person who assaulted him is said to be identified as Ullal Kotepura resident Mannan.
It is said that three mosques at Kodi had refrained from organizing Eid Milad processions to Ullal Dargah on Tuesday January 14. A rowdy had reportedy threatened the people in the vicinity over this, and a fight erupted between the two groups of Kodi and Kotepura.
On Wednesday January 15, a water tanker in Ullal Kodi had hurt a youth and the Kotepura group had retaliated by breaking the glass of the tanker. Stones were thrown at the police team who had come to enquire about it. A case in this regard was registered at the police station.
On Thursday January 16, when Abdul Latif and two others from Kodi were standing by a local club, a group comprising Mannan from Kotepura and four others allegedly damaged the windshield of a lorry transporting fish. When Abdul Latif questioned it, Mannan came forward to attack him with a machete. When Latif raised his hand to prevent being hit, he was injured by the machete blow.
When the locals came running towards them after the incident, Mannan fled with his accomplices. It is said that Mannan is an accused in the murder of a watchman of a fish oil mill.
Complaints by both the groups have been lodged in the local police station.
