Kundapur: Attempt to rob cash, diesel: Lorry owner nabbed during escape bid

Kundapur, Jan 16: Police on Wednesday January 15 arrested a lorry owner and seized his vehicle for alleged robbery of cash and diesel.
The arrested person is identified as Anilappa who owns and drives a lorry registered in Maharashtra. Three more accused fled in their lorries, sources said.
The incident occurred at Beejady under Kundapur police station limits. Locals Suresh Gowda, Rajendra and Kumar had brought fish in their three lorries from Goa to Beejady fish mill, unloaded it and parked their vehicles at Beejady and were taking rest.
Meanwhile four persons in two lorries registered in Maharashtra, came to Rajendra, allegedly threatened him with knife and rods, tore his clothes and snatched Rs 11,000 from his bag. They then went to the diesel tank and were about to remove the nuts and bolts from it to rob diesel when Suresh Gowda and Kumar who were taking rest came there running.
The robbers who saw more than one person coming towards fled in their lorries. The people who gathered after the incident informed Kundapur police. One of the lorries of the robbers hit a roadside tree in an attempt to flee the scene and got stuck there. When Kundapur police reached the spot, they found Anilappa, the driver and arrested him.
The lorry was lifted with the help of a crane and brought to the police station. Diesel found in three cans of 50 liters each and a gas cylinder have been seized. A case has been registered in Kundapur police station.
It is said that several instances of robberies of diesel from parked lorries have taken place in Kundapur taluk during the last two years. Police were not able to solve robberies of diesel and lorry tyres in Gangolli, Trasi, Maravanthe, Sangam area, Kundapur etc. With the arrest, it is hoped that the police may be able to arrest the other accused.
