'Roar' performance makes Katy Perry cry

Beijing, Jan 15 (IANS): Pop star Katy Perry was touched after she heard an orchestral performance of her hit song "Roar" during a visit to China.

The singer was the guest of honour at a show organised by the China National Orchestra in Beijing Sunday. A hundred musicians took to the stage for a unique rendition of "Roar", using traditional Chinese instruments, which left Perry in tears.

"Overwhelming! (It was) very emotional for me and made me cry. It made me really understand my love for music in its purist form. (It was) so moving," contactmusic.com quoted Perry as saying.

Orchestra director Xi Qiang said that the aim was to showcase more music to people in China and abroad.

"Katy Perry is a successful pop singer. Our traditional music boasts a long history. This piece showcased the inclusiveness of our music traditions. We want to bring music to more people, both at home and abroad," said Qiang.
