Gaza, Feb 2: Dozens of Palestinians took to the streets in Gaza on Saturday, protesting against US President Donald Trump’s proposal to relocate the Strip’s population to Egypt and Jordan. Demonstrators praised Egypt for rejecting the plan, reaffirming their right to remain on their land.
Protesters gathered at Al-Saraya Square in Gaza City and Deir al-Balah, waving Palestinian and Egyptian flags. Large banners featuring Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi carried messages asserting Egypt’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause.
A statement from families and clan leaders firmly rejected any forced displacement, emphasizing that “Palestine is our rightful homeland, and we will not allow anyone to undermine that.” The statement called for unity among Palestinians and resistance against any plans threatening their identity and historical struggle.
Hamas also dismissed the US proposal as "absurd and worthless," with spokesperson Sami Abu Zuhri accusing Washington of complicity in a broader effort to displace Gazans. He warned that such moves would only escalate tensions in the region.
Meanwhile, in Cairo, foreign ministers from Egypt, Jordan, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, along with Arab League representatives, convened to discuss Gaza’s reconstruction. The leaders emphasized the urgent need for a comprehensive rebuilding plan to ensure that Palestinians remain in their homeland.
