Mangalore, Jan 7: Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation will commemorate the 110th year of social reformer and freedom fighter Kamaladevi Chattopadhyaya in a befitting way by organizing a three-day women conference during the ongoing Mangalore NBT book fair. A three-day drama festival will also be held.
This was announced by Basti Vaman Shenoy, president of World Konkani Centre on Tuesday January 7 at a press meet.
Well-known drama troupes from Mangalore, Kundapur and Mumbai will be participating and performing at Town Hall during this festival.
Basti Shenoy said, "On January 8, there will be a drama conducted by Kalakul repertory of Mandd Sobhann, based on the real story of martyr Bhagat Singh; on January 9 Konkani comedy drama 'Ranga Mantap' will be performed by Sri Lakshmi Venkatesha Konkani nataka Sabha Roopakala (Kullappu), Kundapur, and on January 10 'Satyam Vada Dharmam Chara' drama will be performed by 'Aami Rangakarmi' Ramasevaka sangha, Wadala, Mumbai."
The drama festival will be inaugurated on January 9, by Padma Shenoy, chief guests will be Prema Bhat, Vijayalakshmi B Shetty, president of the Federation of Women’s Organizations, Mangalore taluk and writer Janaki Brahmavar. Dr Vasundhara Bhupathi will preside over the ceremony.
Seminar on Empowerment of Konkani women
The National Book Trust, New Delhi in association with Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation, World Konkani Centre, Mangalore and Department of Kannada and Culture, Government of Karnataka will be organizing a seminar on 'Empowerment of Konkani women' on January 11 at 10 am at the NBT Mangalore Book Fair seminar hall, Nehru Maidan here.
Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday January 7 Basti Vaman Shenoy, president of World Konkani Centre, said that Dr Judy Pinto, vice-principal, St Aloysius College will inaugurate the seminar.
Dr B Devdas Pai, registrar of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, Mangalore will be the chief guest, while Prabha V Kudva, eminent social worker will preside over the ceremony and N Navyajyothi, journalist, Malini K, journalist, Kundapur, Sandhya Bhandari, lecturer, Clita Noronha, theatre personality, Mangalore and Geeta Vagle, social worker, Udupi will be the panel of speakers during the seminar.
Amit Karki, regional head, NBT, Mangalore and Melvyn Rodrigues, president of Kavita Trust were present during the press meet.
