Udupi: Kaniyur Swamiji accorded grand welcome at Pura Pravesha

Udupi, Jan 3: The 'Pura Pravesha' of Sri Vidyavallabhatirtha Swamiji of Shree Kaniyur Math, who will ascend the ‘Paryaya Peetha’ on January 18, was held here on Thursday January 2 amid fan fare.
The Swamiji was given a rousing welcome by a large number of people who gathered to welcome him. A procession was taken from Jodukatte during which the Kaniyur Swamiji sat on a decorated chariot.
The procession passed through Diana Circle, Koladapete, Thenkupete and culminated at Car Street. Traditionally dressed folk artistes and others added color to the procession. The teams that participated in the procession included 'Chende’ troupes 'Dollu Kunitha' performers, band-sets, people carrying colorful umbrellas, and bhajan teams.
'Pura Pravesha' marked the return of Sri Vidyavallabhatirtha Swamiji from a pre-Paryaya pilgrimage to different pilgrim centres in the country.
A felicitation ceremony for the Swamiji was held later in the evening by the district administration.
During the ceremony, MLA Pramod Madhwaraj said that the state government has granted Rs 3 crore for the Paryaya and an additional Rs 3 crore for the development of Udupi.
District incharge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake said that soon heritage status will be given to Udupi.
CMC president Yuvraj, vice-president Amrita Krishnamurthy, former MLA Raghupati Bhat, Kota Srinivas Poojary, Kaniyoor Math diwan Raghuram Acharya, Balaji Raghavendra Acharya and others were present.
