Mangalore: Man held guilty of raping minor girl

Mangalore, Dec 20: The second additional district and sessions court on Friday December 20 convicted a man of raping a minor Dalit girl.
Anil, a resident of Kutrupady was held guilty of raping a 14-year-old girl twice, in October 2012 and January 2013. The girl, daughter of coolie workers, was studying in standard 9th.
Judge Uma M G pronounced the verdict. The sentencing has been reserved for Saturday December 21.
The girl in her complaint had stated that in October 2012, Anil had barged into her house when her parents were out and raped her. In January 2013, he repeated the act and threatened her not to reveal the incident.
The girl, frightened by his threats, remained silent, but the incident came to light when she conceived. In April this year, her parents took her for a medical checkup and her pregnancy was confirmed.
The doctor at Lady Goschen hospital had said that there was danger to the girl's life if the foetus was not aborted, and accordingly the procedure was done.
On April 19, a case was registered in Kadaba police station and Anil was arrested.
There were 11 witnesses in the case. Anil was convicted under section 376 of IPC and under the provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
