Kundapur: Youth arrested for raping girl on false promise of marriage

Kundapur, Dec 19: The police on Wednesday December 18 arrested a youth for allegedly raping a minor girl thrice after promising to marry her, and finally cheating her due to family pressure.
The accused has been identifies as Chetan (22), a resident of Moodugopadi.
It is said that for the past two years, Chetan had been making false claims of love to a 17-year-old girl from Vakwady, and taking her to various places like End Point in Manipal and Kollur. There he would allegedly rape the girl after promising marriage. This way he reportedly raped her thrice.
However, last week his family came to know about the matter, and immediately they held a meeting with local political leaders questioning the girl's character. They convinced Chetan to leave the girl and sent him to Bangalore.
Frightened by Chetan's family's intense opposition, the girl slipped into depression, fell ill and got admitted to Koteshwar hospital, where the incident of rape came to light. The doctors at the hospital informed the Kundapur police.
Under the guidance of Kundapur DySP C B Patil, the police team led by circle inspector P M Diwakar, began a search for the accused. On Wednesday Chetan was nabbed and produced in court, and remanded in judicial custody for 15 days.
