Mangalore: Congress protests against Subramanian Swamy's comment on Rahul

Mangalore, Dec 17: The Congress party workers including MLA JR Lobo gheroed the Circuit House on Tuesday December 17 night after senior BJP leader Dr Subramanian Swamy mocked AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi for indulging in ‘cocaine’.
Bharathiya Janatha Party (BJP) leader and economist Subramanian Swamy was here in the city to address a lecture on ‘Current political situation and relevance of Modi’s leadership’. The talk was organized by NaMo Brigade at AB Shetty Hall, Bunts Hostel here on December 17.
During the interactive session at the end, when a woman from the audience who favored Narendra Modi as a prime ministerial candidate said that Rahul Gandhi had no qualities of becoming the PM of the country and asked Dr Swamy to comment on it, he replied, “The ‘good qualities’ of Rahul Gandhi is… he is an idiot, has no knowledge of politics and is into cocaine, which apparently suggests that he is a ‘drug addict’."
The entire lecture was telecast live on a local channel.
Congressmen protest
Soon after the lecture got over, members of the Congress party gathered inside the Circuit House, where Dr Subramanian Swamy is staying for the night. The members shouted slogans condemning his statement.
Youth Congress president Mithun Rai said, “How can a senior BJP leader make a derogatory remark on our party chief, that too without proof? The party members are here after many of us received calls asking whether his claims were true. He must apologize.”
As word got around, BJP members too came to the circuit house and soon a minor clash broke out between the Congress and the BJP members.
Police arrived at the spot and dispersed the two groups and brought the situation under control.
The Congress workers also registered a complaint against the deregotory remark made by Dr Subramanian Swamy. The case has been registered in Kadri police station.
