Mangalore, Dec 17: Academician, activist and BJP leader Dr Subramanian Swamy on Tuesday December 17 launched a frontal attack on the Congress top brass and said that there was no challenge at all for BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. He also spoke on various issues like corruption, economy, infiltration, foreign investment and much more.
Delivering a lecture on the topic "The present political situation and relevance of Modi's leadership' organized by Namo Brigade at AB Shetty Memorial Hall, Dr Swamy said, "There is no challenge to Narendra Modi today. The Congress does not know who to field - Sonia Gandhi wants to field her son but his IQ is so low that I have given him the nickname 'buddhu'.
"Rajiv Gandhi was a good friend of mine and he despaired about how Rahul Gandhi would meet his future. Rahul is never there when
country is facing a crisis, for instance last year on December 16 when the Nirbhaya case happened, he was abroad having a new year party even though it was not new year," he said.
"There is no challenge to Modi. I have known Modi since 1972 and during Emergency under Indira Gandhi I was undergroun in Gujarat where they could not get me. I have watched and seen Modi perform as a CM. He has produced a high growth of over 10 percent, which he can replicate to the whole of India in five years. India can be a developed country if its grows at 10 percent every year," he said.
"BJP should abolish income tax"
He elaborated on the various dimensions of politics, which he said are corruption, collapse in economy, national security and national reputation.
"Take the question of corruption - see the magnitude of the problem. Indian businessmen and civil servants have taken money from this country through hawala and deposited it in secret accounts of foreign banks in countries like Switzerland and Macau. They have deposited Rs 120 lac crore. The total income tax revenue of the Indian government is only Rs 2 lac crore. If we bring this money back there is no need to pay income tax. If BJP comes to power in 2014 we should abolish this useless tax," he said.
On how the country's reputation was suffering, he said, "Last few days we have seen how an Indian diplomat in the US was treated.
Earlier we saw Pakistan beheading our soldiers and China kicking us. We have no respect from the world for this country of 1.2 billion people. This is where Modi's leadership can bring about a change.
"Today we are suffering international isolation. In 1990 when I was the commerce minister we put our country back on track with a growth rate of 9 percent, but today it is 4.5 percent.
On black money
Stating that corruption had impacted the economy, politics and national security, he elaborated on the ways the black money is used.
"What happens to all that black money? Some of it is sent abroad, and some kept here and spent on purchase and development of land...for building luxurious houses with Italian marble at high prices. Businessmen are making tremendous profits, so why will they invest on making chappals? Nearly 70 percent of the business is of luxury goods," he said.
He said one way to spend the black money was through participatory notes, wherein the money is deposited in Switzerland for which they get aparticipatory note, which they bring back to RBI here and invest in the stock market.
Calling finance minister Chidambaram 'a lawyer and crook - a dangerous combination', he said Chidambaram passed a law wherein if any investment is made by a Mauritius company, there will not be any capital gains tax. "You can take your money through participatory note, go to Mauritius and with dollar you can make an investment, and through that company you invest in the stock market, there will be no capital gains tax. All companies in the 2G spectrum scam had office addresses in Mauritius, with same building and same room number too. When I asked someone to check the address, there was only a lock on the door. Using that address, the companies got tax advantage," he said.
"Mauritius is the largest foreign investor in India, but it is not their money but our money," he added.
On how corruption had seeped into agriculture too, he said, "Prices of agricultural products are going up and down. A new law of forward trading was brought about, which is not allowed by any other country. You go to a farmer in wholesale market, offier him a price higher than the wholesale with black money in cash, and stock the goods in cold storage. When there is a shortage the prices shoot up and then the goods are taken out from the cold storage and the prices go down. There is no shortage of onions."
He also took potshots at Chidambaram's son Karti Chidambaram and Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra, who he said are sitting in Singapore and Dubai and making profits illegally and causing losses to India's rupee. "I wrote to the PM about their illegal money but he does not have the guts to arrest them. But he passed on the letter to the concerned authority, and they got scared and came back to India, and the rupee stabilized. This is all because of black money which has completely wrecked the economy," he said.
He promised that if BJP comes to power, the difference between the rupee and the dollar will not be more than Rs 10.
"UPA leaders scared of ISI"
"In Dubai, one cannot do business unless ISI is kept in the picture. The Dubai government allows them as they are efficient. So ISI knows the account you are depositing your money in as all this information is given to ISI. So Pakistan known which (Indian) minister has which account and how much money is there in it.
"We saw Kapil Sibal declare that we must fight against corruption. If you ask him, he will say corruption is zero as he is not educated enough to count beyond zero. Today UPA ministers are being blackmailed by the ISI who tell them that if they say anything against Pakistan they will be exposed in the media about their bank accounts. That is why Pakistan is gaining ground and why our government is not able to take a stand. We are taking a stand with the US counsel issue, but Pakistan will ruthlessly exploit us. We are afraid of Pakistan but it will not continue for long. The Taliban will take over Pakistan in two years and then India too - because for the Taliban 'Hindustan is an incomplete chapter' as despite 800 years of Muslim rule, 80 percent of Indians are still Indians. We need a strong leadership to fight them, such that Taliban will look towards the other side and not India," he said.
On Aam Aadmi Party
"The current situation is so bad that it cannot be rectified by the current people. People are confused. Those in Delhi are regretting their decision to choose AAP and are now calling it PAAP. They say they are fighting corruption but how many cases have they filed? They are only having press meets. They say Kashmir should go to Pakistan so that there is peace. AAP is against democracy. Arvind Kejriwal had secretly met Moulana Raza who had announced a reward of Rs 5 lac for anyone who beheads author Taslima Nasreen beheaded. Kejriwal met him and asked him for votes. AAP has a left wing manifesto which is not made public but I have a copy of it. AAP does not want to come to power as it will be exposed," Dr Swamy said.
"For democracy you need established parties, but do not let any party rule for long. Nehru and Indira Gandhi ruled for so many years. In no democratic nation will it happen. If the party does not perfom throw it out, as change is better than no change," he added.
Curbing corruption
Dr Subramanian Swamy said that it was necessary to bring in new technology to curb corruption, which will remove discretionary powers of officers. He cited the example of how booking tickets had become easier due to online process.
Secondly, he said the top corrupt people shoud be brought to book and then the smaller people under them should be caught. "The law we have now is sufficient - I have show how with the present law it was possible to send a minister like Raja to jail and get licenses cancelled. I am now trying to catch Chidambaram but there is much grease that he keeps slipping from my hands," he said, and went to explain the 2G scam where he had played a major role in getting spectrum licenses cancelled.
He pointed out that if 2G spectrum and coal had been auctioned instead given them away free, the government would made so much money that sales and excises taxes too could be abolished. "There is no shortage of resouces, but the money has to go in where the economy has potential," he said, adding that investement should be made on the youth by given them infrastructure, connectivity through internet and modern education system.
He also said that agriculture is a sector with the highest potential as India has a god-given gift of agriculture where crops can be grown throughout the year unlike in other countries. But only 25 percent of the land is used for agriculture and our farmers do not have water or power. But it has been done in Gujarat where agricultural growth is 12 percent.
Dr Swamy also mentioned that former PM Narasimha Rao should be givern the Bharat Ratna for the changes he brought about using the blueprints prepared by him.
"There is no way a determined government cannot produce a revolution in five years. We are preparing for it. We have a leader who has demonstrated this in Gujarat where there is no power cut, no pothole on the road and agriculture is blooming," he added.
He also slammed Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in retail and said he was against it as it would create unfair competition. "When a delegation from the US came to meet me I said I am a nationalist and cannot sacrifice our traders as it would be unfair compeition. I told them to allow our Indian companies to go to US and build houses there at 2 percent of bank interest while they can use our cheap labour here. They said it was an immigration problem, and I said then we can't do it."
Identity of Indians
Dr Swamy stressed on the identity of an Indian said there is no division between castes and north or south Indian as all have the same DNA. Christians and Muslims too have Hindus as ancestors, and hence, the identity of an Indian is "he is a Hindu or his ancestors were Hindus - That is the identity we want to foster for India" he said.
He also spoke on how Sanskrit was common to all Indian languages and even NASA had adopted it for artificial intelligence as it was the most scientific language, and some of the frontier US organizations had made it compulsory.
He concluded his speech stating that when morality can be between two moral people and not between a moral and an immoral person. "Hence we have to retaliate and not show the other cheek. Last time we broke Pakistan into two, this time we will break into into four. We have to be strong, and 6 percent of GDP should be spent on defence and 6 percent on education. Only Narendra Modi can achieve this."
A Raghavendra Rao of Srinivas Group of Colleges also spoke on the occasion. Namo Brigade mentor Chakravarthy Sulibele welcomed.
'Tipu Sultan - The Tyrant of Mysore' a book authored by Sandeep Balakrishna was released on the occasion by Dr Subramanian Swamy.
