Kundapur: Five arrested for attempting to loot Kerala families, weapons seized

Kundapur, Dec 16: Kollur police on Monday December 16 arrested five persons who were allegedly planning to rob people from Kerala visiting Kollur.
The arrested are Mohammed Rizwan (25), a resident of Vamanjoor, Mangalore, Faizal (20), Mohammed Ali Shahnawaz (21), Saifu alias Saifuddin (19), and Harshit Shetty (21).
They were arrested after their car met with an accident near Vandse here. The police recovered their Swift car, machets, scythe, rods and a knife from them.
At around 5 am on Monday, the Kollur police who were on night beat came upon a car that had overturned at Chitteri near Vandse. On examining, they found three persons trapped inside the car. The police also found weapons in their possession. Two others who were in the car managed to escape from the spot, but the police were able to arrest them later based on the information provided by the three who were caught.
During interrogation, it came to light that the five had been planning to loot people visiting Kollur.
Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) residents Shyam Kumar and his friend along with their wives and children were on their way to Kollur temple at around 2.30 am on Monday. They were driving in a Santro car.
It is said that after they crossed Udupi, Shyam noticed a Swift car following them. On the state highway at Idoor, the Swift car tried to waylay Shyam's car. Shyam then drove faster and went straight to Kollur police station. He informed the police about the car that was chasing them and also gave its number. Meanwhile, the accused who were chasing them in the Swift car sensed danger and tried to make their escape. They were driving too fast, and as a result the car went out of control and overturned at Chitteri near Vandse.
Kollur police have registered a case and further investigation are on.
