Udupi: Bangalore students drown at Malpe, man dies in rescue attempt

Udupi, Dec 16: In more tragic news, it has now been learnt that another person lost his life in the drowning incident at Malpe beach here on Monday December 16.
The deceased, Somashekar (30), drowned while trying to rescue the boys who were washed away.
His body was found later at Thottam beach.
Somashekar, who worked as an attender at K S Nagaratna College, Chamarajnagar, had seen Roopesh, Gautam and Dilip getting pulled away by the waves while playing in the water. He immediately rushed to their rescued but unfortunately got drowned.
Dilip who was rescued was admitted to Ajjarkad hospital in a serious condition.

Udupi, Dec 16: In a tragic incident, two students from Bangalore met watery grave at Malpe beach here on Monday December 16.
The deceased have been identified as Roopesh and Gautam Babu, both 21 years of age and final year BCom students of Sri Krishna College, Banashankari.
It is said that Roopesh and Gautam along with 11 of their classmates were on a trip and had come to Malpe on Monday after visiting Gokarna and other places.
The youngsters went to the beach and got into the water. Roopesh, Gautam and another person of the group, identified as Dilip, went too far and a strong wave is said to have pulled them away.
The other boys and locals at the beach rushed to their rescue. Dilip was brought back ashore while the other two drowned.
Dilip was admitted to Ajjarkad hospital and his condition is said to be serious.
The bodies of Roopesh and Gautam were retrieved and shifted to the mortuary.
Roopesh was a resident of Vasanthpura, Bangalore. His father works for Indian Express in Bangalore.
Gautam was the son of an advocate, and resident of Kattariguppe, Bangalore.
Malpe police have registered a case.
