Mangalore: Classic Mandd Sobhann style of music enchants all at Rohan Corp

Mangalore, Dec 16: The premises of Rohan Corporation on Sunday December 15 reverberated with the classic ‘Mandd Sobhann’ genre of music led by gurkar Eric Ozario. The two-hour long musical show performed in the packed hall regaled the audience of Konkani.music world.
As many as 14 songs, all of them melodious, low rhythms, entertained the Konkani music lovers. All the songs were composed by Eric Ozario, on poems penned by eight Konkani poets including the late Cha Fra, Melvyn Rodrigues and Shridhar Kamath.
Young singers Prajoth D'Sa and Vinay Lewis presented beautiful performances. In addition, guitarist Alwyn and Rashmi Fernandes also lent their voices for the songs and enthralled the gathering.
The evening began with a song titled ‘Mandd Sobhann’ sung by Eric Ozario, Joyce, Rashmi along with Aman and Gia. Thereafter Prajoth D’Sa and Vinay Lewis brought out the essence of ‘Mandd Sobhann’ style, keeping its originality alive.
Before each song, compere Arun Raj Rodrigues introduced each musical piece and the lyrics connecting them to recent issues in a humorous way.
Some of the songs were 'Suddsudde Renvecher', 'Rat Volint', 'Yad Tujhi', 'Hanv Vetam', 'Fatoddechea Kombyan', 'Pois Ravun', 'Umyamni Vontt Tovla', and 'Brinddam Tujea'.
Mandd Sobhann gurkar Eric Ozario and president Louis Pinto felicitated entrepreneur Rohan Monteiro for not only provinding an opportunity to perform but also sponsoring the event.
Book on Mandd Sobhann released
On the occaison, Rohan Monteiro released a book on Mandd Sobhann written by Vittori Karkal. The book titled, 'Prabhaav', is a comprehensive study on the contribution and influence of Mandd Sobhann on Konkani language and culture. It is the first Konkani book of its kind to receive financial assistance from the Central Institue of Indian Languages under the ministry of human resource development.
The book presents a study on the growth and development of Mandd Sobhann over the past 27 years.
