Mangalore, Dec 15: The valedictory ceremony of the two-day 'Jana Nudi' organized by Abhimatha was held at Kalaangann, Shaktinagar here on Sunday, December 15 in the Kalaangann in Shaktinagara.
The occasion was presided over by K Neela, state president of Janavadi Mahila Sanghatane. Dinesh Amin Mattu, media advisor for Karataka chief minister was the main speaker. Sanath Kumar Belagali, Mavalli Shankar and Dr Vasundhara Bhupati were the chief guests.
In his address, Dinesh Amin Mattu said, "Looking at the recent developments in our society, we feel that the cycle of history has been turning in the reverse direction. We should have gone forward, but unfortunately we have been moving backwards day by day.
"Women had been respected a lot in this land right from the olden days, but if we look into happenings around us today, the change is quite clear. Similarly, religious harmony was a prime aspect of the coastal region earlier, but due to some incidents and discrimination, communal harmony too has been effected," he said.
He further said, "Reservation is another aspect that has played a key role in our society. Not just now, but right from the time of Devraj Urs, reservation has created space for the backward and the minority communities."
On the Anti-Superstition Bill, he said, "The proposed Anti-Superstition Act has all together 14 points in it, but the Act will never affect any religious thinking or practices. But a few sections of the society have been fighting against this Bill and spreading fake news about it.
Commenting on Gujarat's progress, he said, "The entire nation is pointing towards Gujarat for its development, but the development there is just in infrastructure and is not people-centered. Nearly 60 to 70 percent of women are still suffering from anaemia and children from lack of proteins, hence we must not welcome this sort of development.
"We look at the government from a particular angle, but we should know that more than the government system that is visible, there is a 'hidden government' that has been functioning and that is ruling our state. We think that there are four prime parts that make a system, judiciary, political, working sector and the media, but above all, there are religionism, commercialism and casteism that have been controlling the system. In the same way, Gujarat development is a mixture of a one-man show, communalism and commercialism," he added.
"Putting on the mask of culture and commercializing education is the biggest of crimes. Sowjanya’s mother Kusuma is unable to give justice to her own daughter, even as some individuals have been controlling the whole state; this is another example of the hidden government," he said.
"If the right wing is in favour of true Hinduism, it must first wipe out casteism from our society. Black money has been hidden away in the religious and corporate centres in our state, as those are the safest places of all, hence this matter also must be taken seriously.
Fight against what is wrong must never end, but carry on forever, and even if one stops it, another must pick it up and carry it forward. Fight must not be a one-time programme, but must be cyclic," he said.
In her presidential address, K Neela said many people are confused if this 'Jana Nudi' was organized against 'Nudisiri', and no doubt it is true. "Many literatteurs who have once fought for women's rights, Dalit rights and minority rights have now been taking part in Nudisiri, but there is a need for those people to turn back and analyze if what they have been doing was right or wrong," she said.
"They must go to Dharmasthala, Ujire and the surroundings to see the present situation of our society and the total figure of our land. Nudisiri committees have also been formed in various parts of the state and crores have been spent, the true aim behind this is commercialization and nothing else," she said.
Writers and literatteurs from various parts of the state were present.
