Udupi, Dec 15: "SKEC-KCT, the Korean-Indian joint venture that has undertaken the contract of constructing part B of the third crude oil storage unit near Padur, Udupi, has successfully completed most of the work," said Korean project manager Jin Moo Lee.
He was addressing the media at the company office in Padur here on Saturday December 14.
For the first time in Asia, a crude oil storage unit has been constructed without any accidents. It has been built at a cost of Rs 3,759 crore in a span of 10 million hours, using manpower to dig out the rocks underneath the earth," he said.
"We have earned recognition for setting a new milestone with this work from ISPRL and special honour from Engineers India Limited," he added.
SKE-C is a company based in South Korea, while KCT is Kolkota-based. The total project has been divided into two parts A and B. part A has been undertaken by HCC, and SKE-C and KCT-JV have together taken up the part B through a tender that had been called in the year 2009-10.
To commemorate the success of this project, the company has decided to gift prizes and awards to the staff and workers of the company, he said.
ISPRL chief Veerabadra Rao, SKE-C and KCT JV co-project manager K M Prasanna, M E Park, Y W Saang and others were present.
