Udupi, Dec 15: In an incident that shocked the locals, a man and and a woman were found hanging from an electric pole in a plantation at Uggelbettu, Uppoor in Belmar here on Sunday December 15.
The deceased are identified as Vijay (28), a resident of Uggelbettu and Veena (21), a resident of Ammunje.
The exact reason behind taking the extreme step is not yet known.
Sources said that Vijay and Veena were friends. Veena was a member of a self-help group (SHG) that came under Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP), and Vijay was a representative SKDRDP at Malpe. Veena had reportedly taken loan for construction of a house and given it to Vijay, but was unable to repay it.
Vijay had married five years ago and has a four-year-old child. Locals also said that Veena had been coaxing Vijay to marry her which created problems with his wife.
The locals who saw the two hanging from the electric police informed the Brahmavar police who arrived on the spot. The family of the girl who found her to be missing on Sunday morning too searched for her.
A case has been registered in Brahmavar police station.
