Kundapur: Police hunt for auto driver accused of cheating girls, raping

Kundapur, Dec 14: The Kundapur police are on the hunt for an auto rickshaw driver who allegedly had sexual relationships with several girls after luring them with false promises of marriage.
The accused is said to be Vigneshwara, a 25-year-old resident of Moodubage in Amparu. The locals who know him said that he might have got into sexual relationships with more than twenty girls after promising to marry them.
Locals also said that Vigneshwara was an expert in impressing girls with his talk and mannerisms, ultimately coaxing them into having affairs with him.
A 22-year-old girl who was allegedly deceived by him lodged a police complaint. A Kempannana Toplu resident of Anagalli, she was employed as a sales girl in a shop at Kundapur. She had met the man two years ago at a marriage function. The girl in her complaint stated that he was pursuing her and had lured her to several places and had sex with her several times. She alleged that he used to convince her with promises of marriage.
She and Vigneshwara were reportedly spotted by locals at KCDC cashew plantations on the way to Hattiangady temple five months ago. They were handed over to the police but the girl was determined to marry him.
The girl said that everytime she spoke of their marriage, Vigneshwara would postpone it, which raised doubts in her mind. He ultimately refused to marry her. When she insisted, he reportedly slapped and raped her, she said in her complaint.
The police sent her for medical examination, which confirmed the rape.
The Kundapur police have registered a case of cheating and rape against Vigneshwara. He has so far not been traced.
Sources said that more than 50 similar cases were registered in Kundapur taluk during the last one year and the number is increasing. It is also said that there are girls who willingly do it for money or pleasure, and complain when their desire is not fulfilled.
