New Delhi, Apr 2: The much-anticipated Waqf Bill is slated to be passed in Parliament on April 2 , with Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) chief announcing that the proposed legislation aims to enhance the welfare of the Muslim community across the country.

Speaking to the JPC chief stated that the bill is designed to streamline the administration and management of Waqf properties, ensuring greater transparency, accountability, and efficiency. The move is expected to significantly boost community welfare initiatives, especially in the areas of education, healthcare, and social development.

“The Waqf Bill is a historic step towards safeguarding and optimally utilizing Waqf properties for the benefit of the Muslim community. It will empower Waqf boards with better governance tools and prevent misuse of properties,” the JPC chief remarked.

The proposed legislation includes provisions aimed at curbing irregularities and enhancing the monitoring mechanisms of Waqf assets. By providing legal clarity and modernizing outdated regulations, the bill seeks to ensure that the benefits of Waqf properties reach the intended beneficiaries.

Experts have welcomed the bill, emphasizing that it could play a transformative role in empowering marginalized sections of the community. Community leaders have expressed optimism that the streamlined administration of Waqf assets will enhance funding for various welfare projects.

However, some opposition parties have raised concerns over specific provisions of the bill, arguing that it must be implemented with fairness and transparency to avoid potential misuse.

The JPC chief, however, reiterated that the bill was drafted after extensive consultations with stakeholders and is aimed at ensuring maximum benefit to the community.

The Parliament session is expected to witness spirited discussions before the bill is formally passed. The community eagerly awaits the outcome, with hopes that the new law will address long-standing issues related to Waqf management and utilization.
