Karkala: 16-year-old boy dies as car rolls off highway

Karkala, Dec 13: A 16-year-old boy died after a car driven by his father went out of control and rolled off the national highway in front of Miyar Church here on Friday December 13.

The deceased has been identified as Shrutesh (16) from Hirebail, Kalasa. He was a first year PUC student at Bhuvanendra College, Karkala and was staying in the nearby Bhujabali Brahmacharya Ashram.

Shruthesh had gone home and was returning on Friday morning with his parents for a PTA meeting to be held the same day in the college.

His father Shantaraj who was driving suddenly lost control of the car. The car dashed into six protective stone barriers along the side of the road and then toppled.

The student who got caught under the car died on the spot due to severe head injuries.

Shantaraj and his wife escaped with minor injuries. 

A case has been registered in the town police station.

    Heartfelt condolence to the family..

    i think govt should bring three very important things to be displayed in the car like western countries do.
    1.Vehicle roadworthy certificate
    2.Insurance for car , passengers
    3.as usual tax

    at present we have only tax certificate and emission test i.e for air pollution.

    Very sad for the father who drove the vehicle.First I am sure he was driving fast second the use of belt would certainly help him.now too late to cry over it.In India the Govt should make it compulsory to wear belt or fine them as they do in western or elsewhere.At the same time Autos also should be in a good stand so that on the way not get into Trouble and cause accidents.mostly nobody in India uses belt even Driver.second in a vehicle proper belt are not having,and more passengers than allowed,so cant always belts can be used.Heartfelt sympathies to the Family.

    It is sure he was not wearing a seat belt. Most of the people in india, they dont know what is the advantage of wearing seat belts. Need to be conducted compulsory training (Defensive driving course) before issuing Licence. Also TV channels need to give awareness.

    Dear SGR, Partly I do agree with u. In India, cars have zero safety rating. But we Indians too, are not following safety norms and equally responsible as cars are run by human beings. Always prefer short cut, we do not have patient even at the signal even for one second.

    Look at the conditions of our roads, even if there are small path holes, which the locals can fill by doing some social work, most of the times, we do not bother. Really sad and this is our attitude.

    Reading the narration of the accident, it is eminent that the boy was not wearing the seat belt, otherwise how can he get stuck under the vehicle? Had he wore the seat belt he would have not thrown out of the car and would have survived. A lesson for who do not follow the safety rule.

    Doesn't look like an accident that can take life,these things always take place due to not fastening Seat Belts and the last but the least,Indias no1 selling car Alto with 0 Safety Ratings,So Bad!!!

    In India human life is costing less than a car. Nowadays everyone needs to have car at least for prestige !! Like the previous days people used have Kambala Buffaloes as prestige. that was good for everyone . but this car/bike crazy generation heading towards where?

    @SGR... why blame the alto in this case. The case was not using the seat belts that have been provided in the cars. Cars in the 10-12 years are provided with seat belts. Even the basic model like Maruti 800 has this facility.

    It is clear that the boy was not wearing the seat belt, otherwise he be thrown out of the car and get stuck under the vehicle?
