Udupi: Gearing up for Paryaya - Kaniyoor Math holds 'Bhatha Muhurat'

Udupi, Dec 12: As a prelude to the upcoming Paryaya in January 2014, the ritual of 'Bhatha Muhurat' was performed under the aegies of Kaniyoor Math here on Thursday, December 12. It is the last of a series of traditional rituals ahead of the Paryaya.
Sri Vidyavallabhatirtha Swamiji of Kaniyoor Math will ascend the Paryaya Peetha, also called the Sarvajna Peetha, at the 800-year-old Sri Krishna Math on January 18, 2014. It will be his second Paryaya.
As part of the ‘Bhatha Muhurat’, the office bearers, scholars of the Math, pupils and well wishers gathered to offer prayers to Sri Anantheshwara and Sri Chandramouleshwara, offering their respects to Sri Krishna Mukhyaprana, Sri Madhwacharya, Sri Vadiraja and Vrandavanastha priests and prayed that the programme may proceed smoothly.
A procession comprising Math representatives was held from Kaniyoor Math to Badagu Mallige of Krishna Math carrying rice bundles. The procession was accompanied by troupes beating drums and blowing trumpets.
The procedure of storing enough rice and grains for the next season is called Bhatha Muhurat.
On January 2, Purapravesha will be held, wherein a grand welcome will be bestowed on the future Paryaya Swamiji, who will by then complete his journey to various sacred places in North India and South India.
Thereafter, devotees will offer various vegetables, paddy, grains, and fruits to the Math for the Paryaya and for future use.
On this occasion Balaji Ragavendra Acharya, Harikrishna Punaroor, Ranjan Kalkura, Bhaskar Rao Kediyoor, Asranna of Kateel Durgaparmeshwari Temple were present.
