Mangalore: Ideal's vanilla ice cream adjudged best in country

Mangalore, Dec 10: The city’s well-known ice cream manufacturer, Ideal Ice Creams, has bagged five major national prizes at the ‘Great Indian Ice Cream Contest 2013’, organized by the Indian Dairy Association, held recently in Gurgaon.
Mukund Kamath, MD, Ideal Ice Creams, addressing media persons here on Tuesday December 10, said that more than 500 products were displayed in various categories like standard vanilla ice cream, standard vanilla frozen dessert, the best chocolate, premium ice cream, kids’ category, and innovation, where 70 well-known companies of India had participated.
The five prizes bagged by Ideal are for ‘vanilla ice cream’ (best product), ‘vanilla ice cream’ (gold medal), ‘vanilla frozen dessert’ (gold medal), ‘best chocolate’ (silver medal), and ‘innovation’ (silver award).
On the whole, Ideal received the highest number of prizes and was at the top position. This competition has been organized for the fourth time and is the world’s only ice cream event to have the participation of so many companies. The event had the best resource persons from various fields of dairy products as the judges.
In the first round, the ice creams were selected based on their taste, fragrance, appearance, and thus selected brands had to fight it in the final rounds.
The prize winners were announced at a grand valedictory ceremony held in the presence of more than 150 guests including Dr Rajeev N Vaidya, president of South Asia and Asian Dupont, Brian Johns, president of South Asia Dupont Nutrition and Health, K L Arora, secretary of IDA, North John’s .
Prabhakar Kamath, founder of Ideal Ice Creams, Sudhir Ghate of Magnum Intergrafiks, and Jaya P Kamath were present on the occasion.
