Sullia: Thousands gather for annual festival at Subrahmanya temple

Sullia, Dec 9: The annual Champashashti Brahmarathotsava at Kukke Shree Subrahmanya Temple was held on Sunday, December 8 with much gaiety. Thousands of devotees thronged to the temple and participated in the celebrations with enthusiasm.
The procession started in the morning with the idol of lord Umamaheshwara carried in the chariot. It was led by elephants along with band, conch, saxophone, drums, and holy chants.
Chief priest B Keshava Jogithaya and priest Rajesh Nadyanthillaya placed the idol in the chariot and performed the rituals. The priests offered fruits and flowers to the deity. People of Malekudiya tribe had artistically prepared the chariot with bamboo sticks and cane. Thousands of devotees pulled the chariot amid chants. Others threw mustard and pepper at the chariot as part of the celebrations.
There were 52 volunteers to help in the celebrations. A prayer service was held for the idol at Shashtikatte and Dwadashi Mantapa at the concluding ceremony. Devotees were given prasada.
Temple’s management committee president Krishnaprasad Madthila, members Chandrashekar Talur, Subrahmanya Bhat, Kishore Shiradi, Mohan Ram Sulli, Monappa Marnadu, Vanaja Bhat, Yamuna Rai, Temple secretary Nagaraj, assistant executive officer Ravindra and inspector of department of charity, Sudhakar were present.
The Made Snana ritual that started last Monday concluded with the celebrations. More than 800 devotees took part. Over 2000 people have done Made Snana during the last three days.
Naukavihara and Avabhrathotsava will be held on Monday December 9, at Kumaradhara river side.
