New Delhi, Nov 29 (IANS): The government-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) Friday launched an internet-ready phone priced at Rs.1,799 and two smartphones in association with Pantel Technologies.
The phones will come in bundled offers with BSNL special tariff vouchers.
Addressing a press conference here, BSNL chairman and managing director R.K. Upadhyay said the new phones were targetted at “common man” of the country.
The cheapest phone that the two firms introduced in partnership is named PentaBharat. It has three inch large screen display with dual SIM and is priced at Rs.1,700. It includes 1,200 minutes of BSNL free bundled talk-time.
"It is India's first internet access ready phone at this price and has been designed specially for e-governance applications for the common man,” BSNL and Noida-based Pental Technologies said in a joint statement.
The other two smartphones are priced at Rs.6,999 and Rs.7,999.
Penta Smart PS650, which is priced at Rs.7,999, comes with 6.5 inch display and sleek design with dual core processor performance. It is bundled with three GB of BSNL 3G data and 300 minutes of talk-time.
Another smartphone named PentaSmart P501 is priced at Rs.6,999. It has five inch display and comes with three GB of BSNL 3G data and 300 minutes of talk-time.
“BSNL always endeavours to serve common man, think of common man and work for common man. Keeping that spirit in mind, BSNL has bundled its data special tariff voucher with devices from Pental Technologies to make the bundled offers a lucrative one for different segments of the society,” Upadhyay said.
