Mangalore airport to be open round the clock from Dec 1

Mangalore, Nov 20: Mangalore International Airport which is currently open 20 hours a day will be operational round the clock on all seven days of the week starting December 1.
Catering service will also be available thereby enabling all passengers to have fresh food. A five-star hotel in the city has been entrusted with the service and the hotel will also be serving food in the aircraft, said a source from Air India.
Jet Airways will be provided catering service by a hotel in Kerala. The food will be prepared in Malavoor. As catering service is available 24 hours a day, it will be convenient for the passengers, said J T Radhakrishnan, airport director.
Down from 9th to 27th position
Meanwhile, in a news that would sadden the hearts of Mangaloreans, the airport has slipped from 9th to 27th position in a matter of just six months, according to the bi-annual Customer Satisfaction Survey Airports Authority of India (AAI).
The survey is conducted among 52 small airports with less than 15 lac passengers a year. Hubli airport has maintained its previous ranking and even improved its score, while Mangalore airport, which scored an impressive 4.68 last time to finish 9th, could manage a score of only 4.12 out of 5 this time.
As per the survey, Jodhpur airport tops the list with a score of 4.69.
The survey was based on 33 parameters, including availability of baggage trolleys, parking facility, waiting time in check-in queue, waiting time for security clearance, cleanliness, and speed of baggage service. Among these, Mangalore airport scored the highest in cleanliness of washrooms and airport terminal.
