Need law to bring back money stashed abroad: Modi

Alwar (Rajasthan), Nov 19 (IANS): India needs a law to bring back black money stashed abroad, BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi said Tuesday, as he hit out at the Congress government in Rajasthan.

Saying the corrupt were depositing their ill-gotten wealth in foreign banks, Modi told an election rally here that the country must get to know details of bank accounts held abroad by Indians.

Questions should be asked from all Indians who hold foreign bank accounts as to where they got their money and how, he said.

Modi's ire was mainly directed at Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who will lead the Congress to assembly elections due Dec 1.

Modi accused the Rajasthan government of sleeping "for almost 55 months" and waking up just before the elections.

"The state needs a government that works for all the 60 months," the Gujarat chief minister thundered.

He said even high court judges had made negative comments about the Gehlot government.

He said the Congress government in the state was to blame for the large number of atrocities on tribals and women.

A large number of people in Rajasthan were without potable water, and the condition of roads were among the worst in the country, he said.

"Your own governor has criticized the quality of roads...

"Over 40 communal riots have taken place in the state and some ministers of your government are behind bars on different allegations," he said.

Modi wondered why Gehlot kept comparing Rajasthan with Gujarat. It would be better if he focussed on developing the state.

"We (Gujarat) have been praised by all and we do not need a certificate from Rajasthan's chief minister," he said. "God save the country from Ashok Gehlot's ways of governance."

Modi urged Rajasthan to vote for a change.

"Please remember that when you vote on Dec 1, you are not voting for a MLA or a government but you are voting for the future of Rajasthan.

"You will decide how Rajasthan will develop in times to come."

As for the Congress, he said it would not survive beyond the 2014 general election.

Same old record playing again. Why BJP did not do anything when they were in power? Will he bring back all money looted by Reddy, Yeddi and some of his friends while they were power as BJP leaders. Why has he stopped appointing Lokayuktha in his state to stop corruption? Please tell us.

Everybody knows a law is required, before you said it here, to bring back any money of Indian nationals in und accounts in foreign Banks.
Instead of repeating again and again the same, can you tell, as a CM of a State how many time you raised this subject with the center and what solutions you suggested?

Also, if you do not mind can you explain what kind of law you have in mind that will effectively bring back the black money from abroad.

Secondly what measure you have taken to bring out black money in your state itself and how successful it is.
If you elaborate on these things, people may think you are genuinely concerned abt this black money which is cancerous to our nation and its growth.

Just shouting at the top of your voice just before the election time is age old trick which has become stale and has no effect on the voters.

Observation: That second finger is so long... due to gripping of branches...

When BJP was in power, they were fast asleep on Swiss account. Now, when the election is nearing, they try to speak on as many issues as possible to fool people. Does he mean that no BJP person has amassed illegal wealth in foreign Banks ? Why ex CM of Karnataka & Gadkari visited China ? To buy vegetables from street vendors ? This Chaiwalla thinks all Indians are having brain of Chaiwallas. He is fit to maintain the account of small canteen and not of a whole nation. By God, what a perfect name 'FEKU'.

If black money is kept in an foreign country do any Indian Law can forced on that Country? The same way any law of another country can be forced to be implemented on Indian Soil? When we struggle to get an accused Indian national arrested from a foreign Country, after a prolonged legal battle in that country's court, can we implement anything in this matter? Anything Illegal in India may be legal in a particular country.
Some time ago some Indian name came in the newspaper without knowing who were there. There are several Indian origin billionaires with Indian names, who are not citizens of this country, who profiteered doing business in that country. They may have kept their money in Swiss banks. Can we say that money belongs to India because he is an Indian descendant ?
