Udupi, Nov 18: Union minister Oscar Fernandes along with his wife Blossom Fernandes laid the foundation stone for the new office building of Kaup block Congress ‘Rajiv Bhavan’, at Bungalow Maidan in Kaup near here on Sunday November 17.

Later, addressing the gathering, Oscar said, “It is said that in Kaup constituency, the number of Congress activists is increasing and hence, there is no proper place to hold conventions and meetings. Keeping this in  mind,  Rajiv Bhavan has been planned.”

State urban development minister Vinaykumar Sorake, MP Jayaprakash Hegde, KPCC secretary M A Gafoor, Kaup Block Congress president Navin Chandra J Shetty,  Kaup North Block Congress president Sudhir Hegde, taluk panchayat member Shrikar Anchan, and Bhaskar Padubidri were present as chief guests at the rogramme.

Veda Murthi Shrinivas Bhat Majooru performed religious rites at the foundation stone laying programme of Rajiv Bhavan which will be built at a cost of Rs 30 crore.  Renowned contractor Vasudev Shetty of Deviprasad Construction has taken up the project.

On this occasion, party leader Kaup Diwakar Shetty, Sarasu D Bangera, Leena Mathais, Shrikar Suvarna Katpady, PM Moideennabba, Shashidar Shetty Elloru, Geetha Waghle, Ignatius D’ Souza, H Abdula, Sunil Bangera, Rajesh Rao Pangala, Nagesh Suvarna, and Prabhakar Poojary were present.

Four-lane Road Work

“The state government has demanded through a letter to the central government that the repair of Padubidri four lane main road should be conducted during the repair of National Highway 66 from Nanthoor- Kundapur. Hence, the work will be done in the same way,” added Fernandes.

He further said, “The work on National Highway 66 got delayed due to various problems. There are several problems in Padubidri and Bramavara regarding road extension and there is also pressure to extend the road in Katpady. It will be discussed with the NHA.”

“One section is clamouring for construction of a bypass in Padubidri while another is claiming to extend the road on the highway.

To be free of the pressure from both sides, the union government has given this task to the state government.  The previous government has sent a proposal to construct the bypass road, but the present government is considering both sides keeping in mind the people’s opinion and have asked to perform the four lane work on the highway itself,” added Fernandes.

As the number of political activists is increasing, the number of unemployed is multiplying.
Being unemployment is a crucial problem and proper roads and safe public transport facility is a tough challenge, a revolutionary change in the surface transport sector is a necessity and the need of the day.

Why we need to carry and move millions of tons of dead weight (of commuters and goods) on wheels, every day, for thousands of miles, starting from a standstill position till the destination?
Why we need to spend billions of dollars on imported fuel and hinder our development?
Why not we can use the huge dead weight on wheels as a prominent and free source of energy, by making it as a pushing force, instead of carrying and moving it as infants?
Why we are blindly carrying and moving the bullock cart on wheels since the introduction of vehicle engine?
It is our choice either to waste time in blame and arguments or implement a solution to make a world of difference, with a rapid revolution in the surface transport sector.
