Children run to seek RTE for underprivileged

New Delhi, Nov 14 (IANS): On the occasion of Children's Day Thursday, around 5,000 students from various schools and sections of the civil society ran a marathon to raise awareness about the Right to Education (RTE).

The children also signed 5,000 postcards which will be sent to President Pranab Mukherjee demanding the RTE also for the underprivileged children.

"As we celebrate the Children's Day, the 'Real Run for Children' is a wonderful chance to not just experience the pleasure of running with the children, but also support their demand for RTE," said Amod Kanth, general secretary of Prayas, a non-governmental organisation, which organised the marathon.

Celebrities from the Hindi film industry and Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi were also present to encourage the children.
