Mangalore: Ajith Malady and group make clean sweep of Bunts Sangha election

Mangalore, Nov 13: Ajith Kumar Malady and his group made a clean sweep of the elections to Bunts alias Nadavara Mathr Sangha, bagging the top post of the president of the Sangha and all 20 posts of office-bearers.
The polling was held on November 10 in nine taluk centres of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi districts and Kasargod.
The counting began on Wednesday November 13 at 10 am at Ramakishna School and the results were declared after 6 pm.
Ajith Kumar Malady defeated his main opponent educationist A Sadananda Shetty by margin of 1,149 votes. While Malady garnered 4,363 votes, while Shetty got 3,214 votes.
The jubilant winners took out a procession around the Bunts Hostel circle, with Malady beaming at the crowd from atop an open jeep.
Addressing the crowd, the new Bunts Sangha president said that blessings from people had enabled him to win. He thanked his supporters and said that he would always strive to help the poor.
Commenting on the opposition that lost the election, he said, "I will not discriminate against anyone just because they have lost. We will treat everyone equally and work for the betterment of the community.
The elections were held in Mangalore, Udupi, Kundapur, Karkala, Bantwal, Puttur, Sullia, Beltangady and Kasargod. Malady's group won in all the places. Altogether, there were 40 candidates in the fray for 20 posts.
