Tehran, Nov 7 (IANS): An Iranian Pakistan-based Sunni rebel group claimed responsibility for the recent assassination of a local judicial official in Iran, media reported Thursday.
The prosecutor of Zabol city in Iran's Sistan and Baluchestan province, Mousa Nouri, and his driver were killed on way to office Wednesday, reports Xinhua.
The statement issued by the Jaish al-Adl group said the assassination was in retaliation for hanging of Sunni prisoners last week.
In October, Jaish al-Adl also claimed responsibility for a deadly attack in a mountainous area near Saravan city bordering Pakistan in Sistan and Baluchestan province, in which at least 14 border guards were killed.
Sistan and Baluchestan province, mostly populated by Sunni Muslims, has been the scene of bloody clashes between the Sunni rebels and the Iranian security forces.
