Computer engineer arrested for trafficking liquor

New Delhi, Nov 6 (IANS): An illicit liquor supplier was arrested here when he was returning to Haryana from Delhi after supplying a consignment.

Vinod alias Bholu, 25, a resident of Haryana who got his engineering degree in 2010, was arrested Tuesday following a tip-off.

Vinod told police he was supplying liquor from Haryana to Delhi for two years now to repay the loans he had taken from various financiers after incurring a loss of Rs.7 lakh in online silver trading.

"He started supplying liquor in 2010 to repay his loan of Rs.7 lakh, lost in online trading of silver," said Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ravindra Yadav.

Vinod used to arrange financed vehicles for transporting the illicit liquor as he was aware that once a vehicle is confiscated, it would not be released, the officer said.

The accused revealed he was earlier arrested in 2011 for trafficking liquor.

"He would travel at odd hours in the night. While returning to Haryana, he sometimes gave lifts to commuters for a fare. Later, he started robbing those passengers," said the officer.

Efforts are being made to arrest his gang members.
