Car sales rise 34.4 percent in Spain


Madrid, Nov 5 (IANS): Sales of new cars in Spain increased by 34.4 percent in October compared to the same period last year, industrial associations said.

According to the Association of Car Manufacturers, the Federation of Associations of Dealers of the Automotive sector and the Association of Car Dealers, a total of 60,301 new automobiles were sold in October, Xinhua reports.

A total of 606,736 new cars were sold in Spain from January to October, up by 1.1 percent year-on-year basis.

Purchases by individuals increased by 57.9 percent in October to 38,432, while purchases made by companies rose by 7.6 percent to 18,728.

Members of the associations said they were optimistic about the sales for 2013 and 2014 mainly due to the incentive plans. The sector expects to manufacture 2.2 million cars in 2013 and 2.4 million in 2014.
