Mangalore: Clash between communities erupts near Neermarga, six injured

Mangalore, Oct 21: Clashes erupted at Mallur near Neermarga here on Monday October 21 after youths belonging to a particular community allegedly tried to steal a bike belonging to a person from another community.
Initial reports stated that a funeral ceremony was being held at the house of Kunjanna at Mallur. Several bikes, belonging to those who came to attend the last rites, were parked outside the house.
Sources said that a few youths came to the spot and tried to steal an Apache bike belonging to one Praveen. They were noticed by the people around and soon arguments erupted.
Later in the evening, the youths, all of the same community, allegedly entered Kunjanna's house and attacked him, his family members and neighbours. Praveen, whose bike they had tried to steal, was also assaulted, said one of the persons who was injured in the incident.
Five people including three women and an elderly man were injured in the incident. They were identified as Latha (21), Kunjanna (55), Charan (24), Sanket (21), Praveen (22) and Umavati (31). They were admitted to Wenlock hospital.
