Mangalore, Oct 19: The accused who murdered Mohan Ranya near Kinnigoli was arrested by Mulky police at Chikmagalur.
The arrested has been identified as Mohammed Asif (26), basically from Guttakadu but presently residing at Bajpe.

In 2009, during a communal fight near Muru Kaveri in Kinnigoli at night, Mohan Ranya was murdered with lethal weapons while he was returning home. A case was registered in Mulky police station.
Mohan Ranya belonged to backward community and was the only bread winner in his family. Saddened by the incident, people protested and demanded for investigation in all angles.
Former prime minister Deve Gowda, former minister Amarnath Shetty, MLA Abhayachandra Jain and several other leaders visited the family.
Another accused who was involved in the murder was Isubu from Mudur was caught by police in another incident during which, the police learnt that Asif was one of the prime accused in the murder of Mohan Ranya. It is learnt the culprits killed Ranya in communal anger as he wore a orange 'lungi'.
Meanwhile after the murder, Asif fled abroad and police were waiting for his return to make the arrest. The information of Asif arriving to Chikmagalur was received by a Mulky inspector who along with other officials arrested him at Gadikallu in Koppa.
Asif was produced before the Moodbidri court on Friday October 18 and was sentenced to judicial custody.
