Kundapur: Fading tradition of tiger dance gets roaring again

Kundapur, Oct 14: The traditional tiger dance (Huli Vesha) that has existed for hundreds of years is becoming rare these days. The Kundapur arts center recently held a programme in front of Sai center to revive and encourage the dance form.
Senior artiste Vaikunta Hebbar Hulinagesh was felicitated on the occasion. The tiger dance troupe led by Manoj was handed over a sum of Rs 10,000 on behalf of Kundapur arts center.
Inidani music programme fame arts center president B Kishore spoke and said that tiger dance is unique in that it requires continuous steps to the beats ignoring fatigue. It is our responsibility to retain the dance form and make it grow, he said.
President of local BJP constituency, Rajesh Kaveri, Sai center’s Chandrashekar Shetty, journalist U S Shenoy, Prakash and others were present.
The tiger dance performers Shekar Devadiga, Laxman, Deepu alias Pradeep and Prasanna were felicitated with garlands and best wishes.
Musicians Suresh Devadiga, Ganesh Devadiga, drummer Umesh, Sudeendra and Manjunath cooperated in the musical team.
