Udupi: Fun outing turns tragic at Kemthur - Engineering student drowns

Udupi, Oct 12: An outing by a group of engineering students turned tragic when one of them drowned while bathing in a rivulet underneath the Kemthur hanging bridge on the border of Manipal and Kaup here on Saturday October 12.
The deceased has been identified as Sukanand, a second year BE student of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management, Bantakal.
It is said that a group of nine students of the college, including Sukanand had come for a picnic to the spot. Among them, three of them got into the water.
While bathing, all three were pulled in by the water. The others in the group raised an alarm, and with the help of locals, two of them were rescued.
However, Sukanand could not be saved. His body was retrieved later.
The body was shifted to Ajjarkad hospital.
As the incident took place on the border of Manipal and Kaup, the case will be registered in the police station of one of these places.
