Mangalore: Dubai-bound passenger caught with 3 kg of ganja at airport

Mangalore, Oct 9: Just two days after the customs officials seized one kg of gold from a flight at Mangalore Airport, the officials at on Wednesday October 9 seized 3 kg of ganja from a passenger who was about to board the flight to Dubai.

The passenger has been identified as Brijesh (20).

On interrogation, it was learnt that Brijesh had intended to hand over the ganja to a person by name Shaan in Dubai.

Brijesh also said that the ganja was given to him by one Sabir from Kannur, Kerala. He was promised a certain amount of money for the job, it is learnt.

Brijesh must thank his luck. If he had not been caught at Mangalore airport, he would have surely been held in Dubai, where advanced technical facility is in place to nab drug smugglers. Severe punishment is dealt out in Dubai for drug peddlers and even drug consumers.

    one sincere request to all custom officers...please subject thorough checks whenever some passenger goes to the Gulf...Indians enjoy a good rapport in Gulf Countries when it comes to ethical issues...if incidents like these happen frequently we will be in their suspicious books like Paki's and Afghani's who are always treated with suspicion whenever any consignment by air, ship arrives in Gulf Countries and are subject to strict checks...

    Many Mangaloreans carry Kaskas (Poppy seeds) to Gulf countries specially to use for Pork. Many are unaware it is banned in Gulf countries and punishable if caught. Please ensure NOT to carry this to Gulf countries.

    What about smuggling from Dubai to Mangalore? Is it allowed? I hear everyday news people smuggling gold, other items easily from Dubai.It just shows Dubai customs also equally corrupt like India

    It's not against the rule to carry gold out of Dubai. It's a crime in India only when we try to evade the tax. Gold worth upto 1 cr can be brought through proper channels by paying tax.

    How smarter our customs officials..still every time modus-operandi changes according to the situation...
    Now they are targeting young/fresh travellers from other community..to carry out the work..
    Anyhow Brijesh..is lucky...otherwise...one more Qurbani averted..
    Please request don't take anything from strangers/known people and keep baggage fully covered while proceeding especially to Gulf Countries. Otherwise just check yourself properly before colecting any items..Jai Ho..

    Brijesh isn't a small kid to whom somebody gives him drugs just like that to carry in his luggage and he takes it without getting any reward. I have been noticing your comments and i must say that you are being very silly in commenting always. Its funny that you and some of the like minded guys check the relgion of the accused first, try to point out the religion and if he belongs to the relgion you follow, you start to blame his political background.     This idiot can not understand Dubai Customs advance checking systems. Customs Dept utilising Sniffer Dogs to check each and every piece of luggage PLUS you have to pass machines which scan your hand bags.... For get drugs even KAS-KAS ( by product of Poppy plants ) also banned in Dubai...

    He is realy Lucky ..If he was landed in Saudi or Kuwait....??? 100 % death penaly....

    1). If so many people are caught trying to Smuggle thru Mangalore Airport, I am sure some percentage must be passing thru also???

    2). Just see, where these guys are coming from? if they dare to smuggle with such quantity and frequency, imagine, how much must be passing thru their local airports within Kerala????

    You are right Harry. Kerala Airport may be free pass to smugglers. May be smuggler's Gurus are working as custom officials with fake certificates as some of them work as Doctors in Gulf countries with fake certificates. Fake people, fake certificates & fake behavior of people from God's own country.

    In dubai cannot transfer even single medicated drugs we also taking our personnel medicines .But our luggage will come very late after screening.If caught get even death penalty.He caught because his luck may be he don't about gulf for drug policies.

    Thank god, he caught in Mangalore airport itself. otherwise he would have face 20 years jail term if he caught in Dubai airport. lucky person. but why these people still not understand about Indian customs rules and other countries rules. everyday somebody landing in trouble by bringing gold, zafran, ganja etc. when these things will be stopped.
